AXT009 Leave The World Behind
2009

Leave The World Behind. What is there to say that can even remotely cover the planet shattering impact that this song has had? It dominated festivals, ibiza seasons, residencies, clubs, podcast, radio stations. It absolutely destroyed any dance chart that existed at the time of it's release.

Years after it's release, the track still resonates as strong as ever through the dance scene. A massive farewell documentary was named after this track. The vinyl is going for more than 100 euros right now. The track, in one form or another, is still being played at clubs/festivals all over...

I mean, if you weren't an axtone/axwell fan before this release appeared, it made sure you immediately became one

On April 1st, 2009, Axtone records returned from a hiatus of releasing tracks with this absolute Behemoth. It was premiered by Laidback Luke at Sensation White 2009. The Swedes and Luke met a few years prior to this track and after a weekend being locked up in a studio/lighthouse, a partnership was formed. Every now and then, Luke would do something with either Angello, Ingrosso (Chaa Chaa, Otherwise Then, Show Me Love (Be), It) sometimes the four of them combined (Get Dumb). Whatever the combination was, it always resulted in a massive production.

This was about to be their biggest thing yet though, plus their very fist vocal collaboration when they brought Deborah Cox to the table. Originally, this track sounded different (not sure if there are videos of it?). Axwell & Ingrosso ended up doing a Remode together for the track, which eventually became the new idea to the Original Mix. I think it sounded something like this:

Eventually, I think Axwell finished it to what became the final version that we know today. It went on to dominate WMC 2009, and the festivals to come. When the release hit on april fool's (apparently, it was heavily delayed haha, riots!), the track skyrocketed to #1 in beatport in just three days (which was really fast back then) WITHOUT beatport banners or whatever. It remained there for almost three weeks!

Leave The World Behind continued to dominate and it never really stopped. Six years later, people still go nuts when it's being played live. Axwell, Ingrosso, Angello & Luke still play this out from time to time, and don't hesitate to make use of the acapella when they need to. Even on our little podcast, this is the most played tune so far right now. Enough reasons for me to conclude that this is the biggest track Axtone has ever released.

If there was any track in my time as a dance music lover that deserves the status of "legendary", then it's this one

Now, I want to know EVERYTHING about this track! For instance, there was an earlier 'housier' version of this played by Guetta in one of his radio shows before ax & ingrosso made that remode and eventually the final version, is that still online?

But not just that, I mean, the release was so big... There must be interesting unknown side info here and there, or videos, alternative mixes, personal stories...Share them all!!!

Let's properly celebrate this milestone in Axtone history!

Here is the previous version played in the background, we also learn that STIEF doesn't always drink tequila...

Oh man this track got me into House Music, remember the LTWB movie scene when Ingrosso shows Daft Punk music to Steve ? Remember Steve's face at this moment ? That was EXACTLY how I felt when I listened to this track ! I couldn't stop listening to it that day (it was summer and it was even better at that time), I bought it 2 times on iTunes hahaha !

Should I mention that this video here is made out of fan footages too ? It also showed me a bit how this whole world is without me knowing anything : Pete's voice, the mythic UMF 2009 gig... This doesn't make me feel any younger :D

And also, the differences between radio edit and original mix are so huge, that's also what makes this track so good and this is something I really miss nowadays, now extended mixes are just radio edits where 30 sec intro and outro get slapped for DJs...

Here we go

It was premiered way earlier by Luke.
I got my hands of an (illegal) recorded set from him at "Bliss Club, Belgium (18.10.08)"
http://www.laidbackluke.com/forum/viewt ... ilit=start (the 2ns to last post).

It instantly blows my roof up. Even if I didnt know that it was from my heroes I know it was a special weapon.

It kicks in ca. 1minute before the end of Part1.

Here it is :

With less radio talk :

But correction, the one played by Guetta on FG Radio back in time was already the remode.
The first version was especially played on Polish radio I think, beginning in august / september 2008.

Although it's a huge release in history of house music and early EDM (btw, why people didn't get inspired more by this track instead of stealing the Pryda snare, I'll never know), the first version could also have been finished and released for me.
Deborah Cox is an amazing vocalist on this one.
