To me, the most epic unreleased track and the more Housey one is Inside of Me. Pure vibes there, but it seems that it will never see the light...Axachusetts wrote:Was just thinking today - I know it took a while to get to AXT050 (9+ years). But if you Think About It () it's been less than two years since AXT040 (Remember) and we are now approaching AXT061 once Aware, Siren Song, and Torn Apart get released (not to mention maybe TAI and Belong possibly on the label as well). That means at this rate, we might see the legendary Hundredth release in 3 years. Crazy to think that!
Maybe I'm too hopeful for the future, but that might be a good time to release the most legendary unreleased track, the "original" Dark River

AXT022 Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl - In My Mind (Axwell Mix)
2012
So after 'Resurrection' ended the long dry spell Axtone had the year before, 2012 starts off grand with one of the biggest releases they signed so far. In My Mind exceeded far beyond the dancefloor, and like Resurrection even had some radio play here and there.
On the track, we find two familiar Aussies returning again in the name of Ivan Gough, one half of Axtone legends TV Rock, and Feenixpawl. And credit should be given where credit is due to the original producers, we can't deny that Axwell despite his small additions to the existing track, had a huge influence on the final product.

So the star of the show, and the only version that was actually released on Axtone, the Axwell Mix. I'm not sure what the story is, but it simply sounds like Axwell beefed the signing up as usual, and ended up spending so much time on it that a proper credit in the title was justified (plus its not too bad for sales either
).

When I think about it, this might be one of the biggest if not THE biggest Axtone releases of all time, as this remix got a grammy nomination! Together with Eric's take on Midnight City and Tommy Trash his remix for The Veldt, it competed for the prestigious music award for best non classical remix. Eventually, Skrillex won the big one but still , it's quite the accomplishment being nominated alone!
Now about the actual remix. The differences are small but crucial. The biggest thing that you will notice is that Axwell smoothings things out a lot, where the original was still flirting with some slightly rough electro.

As you can hear, this original really is the raw mold of what later became the Axwell Mix. Still a perfectly fine track to me, but the released version worked on by the bossman is obviously more pleasant to put on. This ended up getting a Neon release a few months after Axtone releases their version, similar to In The Air.
Even later, this track got ANOTHER remix from Walden, also released on NEON. For the art, they used the back design Jens made for this release, as it appeared on Vinyl.

Did you know that In Mind Mind was featured on the most atrocious commercial video for a dance tune ever to grace the internet? Apparently KIA has this really weird thing for bizarre Human/Hamster hybrids posing as gangsters in front of their cars, and thought that this tune would fit pretty well to that.

PS: This release has one of the best, if not THE best trailer for an Axtone release ever (Remember when they did those?). The visuals actually made me fall in love with it!

Great read, but you didn't mention Georgie Kay at all! To me the reason why this track became a huge hit in the first place. One of the best edm vocals ever.Vinelli wrote:AXT022 Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl - In My Mind (Axwell Mix)

Here, take some original Georgi Kay
For me, Axwell Mix is one of the best songs ever, not just of dance music, no wonder why it got a Grammy nomination. And the job he did on the original shows how much he knows about this music, the original feels below average for me while Axwell Mix is just perfect.
